The Buffalo Bills are quite literally unstoppable when Jordan Poyer is on the field. In fact, this season the team is an incredible 11-0 when the All-Pro plays on gameday.
Poyer's success on the field makes things interesting for Buffalo and the front office. Jordan Poyer joined the Bills after a brief stint with the Cleveland Browns and completely reinvented himself as a professional.
Since joining the Bills and teaming up with Micah Hyde, the Buffalo secondary has been a force to be reckoned with. Poyer and Hyde have played the position at an elite level accounting for some of the very best moments in the Bills' history over the last two decades.
However, Poyer is up for a contract after this season. The All-Pro safety signed a new agent before camp started and there have been rumors of contract talks throughout the year.
Every time there is a big play you can hop on social media to quickly see "#PayPo" making the rounds. He's been an above-elite part of an elite defense since his arrival in Orchard Park.
Poyer is worth every single penny, and then some. However, Poyer is actually about to lose out, instead of making, a ton of money.
The Buffalo News reported, speaking on the specifics in Poyer's contract, "He has a $500,000 potential bonus for playing 92% of the defensive snaps, as well as $500,000 bonuses for playing 90% of the defensive snaps"
With Poyer missing time, he won't be eligible for any of that. The Buffalo News continued, "Currently, he’s played 687 defensive snaps, which is 69.9% of the team total. With just two games remaining in the regular season, Poyer won’t reach 90%."
While the All-Pro safety was able to cash in on a $500k incentive for making the Pro Bowl, it's nowhere near what he should have made had he not missed time.
The Bills defense has looked vastly different this season from a barrage of injuries to some of the most premiere players on the team. However, when you don't see Poyer on the field, it seems like a different unit.
If Poyer walks, there will be a gaping hole in one of the best teams in the NFL.
Regardless of contracts or injuries or any of the outside noise, Poyer is the ultimate professional. Keep an eye on him during the game and just watch an expert at their craft. As we said, he's worth every penny.
If Buffalo can find a way to win a Super Bowl, that might be the ultimate bargaining chip in helping keep Poyer in Buffalo.
For now, onto Cincinnati.
