The Buffalo Bills have a really solid unit on offense.
While DeAndre Hopkins waits on the sideline to try and get the best offer he can, or just to simply see who is interested and what they'll offer, Buffalo is continuing their offseason plans.
A recent statement from Josh Allen and a "surprise standout" from camp could put the Bills in a better situation, forcing them out of the Hopkins situation entirely. If nothing else, the fanbase may have a new camp favorite.
Josh Allen gushed over the performance of Trent Sherfield, "I've loved what I've seen from Trent so far; the dude works extremely hard. He's one of the hardest-working guys on the team. Doesn't complain about anything. He's rolling right now."
In fact, the buzz surrounding Sherfield was so loud that ESPN even jumped in, naming Sherfield as a "surprise standout" so far in camp. Alaina Getzenberg, Buffalo Bills reporter for ESPN, had this to say about Sherfield's impressive rise.
The ramifications of the Stefon Diggs minicamp drama could still be playing out, but a player who benefited from Diggs not taking part in OTAs and parts of minicamp was Sherfield, one of the Bills' acquisitions to add depth to the receiver room. Sherfield got increased opportunities as the Z receiver for quarterback Josh Allen with Diggs not present and made an impression in that time, with Allen saying of Sherfield during OTAs, "I've loved what I've seen from Trent so far; the dude works extremely hard. He's one of the hardest-working guys on the team. Doesn't complain about anything. He's rolling right now.
Surprisingly, while the national media was focused on Diggs' absence on the first day of camp, it was Sherfield who reaped the rewards and quietly got to work. The wide reciever got increased opportunities as the Z receiver and immediately went to work with Allen.
Sherfield has his work cut out for him as the wide reciever position is chock full of talent at One Bills Drive. The talented reciever is coming off a season in which he amassed 30 receptions for 417 yards and two touchdowns.
While the Bills Mafia may be clamoring for a DeAndre Hopkins addition, there may be a darkhorse standout currently in the building.
Luckily, whatever happens, number 17 is throwing the ball. The Bills Mafia should always like their chances with Josh Allen at the helm.
