The Buffalo Bills were unable to execute in the second half which resulted in an embarrassing and heartbreaking loss to the New York Jets.
Put plainly, Josh Allen needs to be better. The franchise quarterback spent the offseason talking about protecting the football and how that was a major focus coming into the season, unfortunately, it didn't show on the field.
Two of his long ball attempts were straight to the other team's defenders, he tried fitting in a tight ball to Gabe Davis which resulted in another interception, and he had a costly fumble on a first down late in the game.
Immediately after the game concluded, Allen took to the podium for a now-viral clip. The franchise quarterback is wearing the weight of the loss on his shoulders and fully understands that he needs to be better moving forward.
Looking defeated, Allen began by discussing his trying to force the ball in certain spots. "Trying to force the ball." He let out a long pause before continuing, "Same sh**, same place, different day."
When asked to elaborate, Allen was blunt with his self-criticism for the contest, "I hurt our team tonight, I cost our team tonight. This feels eerily similar to last year and I hate that it's the same, I do."
The team will have a chance to bounce back against the Las Vegas Raiders in their home opener next week. As I previously wrote, Allen now leads the NFL in turnovers since 2018 and it's an area he will quickly look to clean up.
Despite his performance, Allen is one of the best quarterbacks in the league and the Bills Mafia should have all the confidence in the world that he won't come out for four more turnovers next week.
We're not hitting the panic button after week 1, the team just simply needs to be better, and that starts with Josh Allen.
NFL officials miss game-altering penalty in Bills vs. Jets game
The Buffalo Bills lost in heartbreaking fashion, but it shouldn’t have been that way. The NFL officials missed a huge penalty that could’ve been a difference-maker in the matchup.
