Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane is pulling off a trade amid dozens of roster cuts ahead of Tuesday's roster cutdown deadline.
Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Bills are trading away former second-round draft pick DE Boogie Basham to the New York Giants.
The transaction denotes the winner of one of the most followed battles of this year's training camp. Basham and A.J. Epenesa seemed to be fighting for the final seat in the edge rushers' room. Instead of having to straight-up cut Basham, they're getting something in return via a trade.
The trade compensation itself is quite insignificant, however. According to Pelissero, it will be a late-round draft pick swap for the… drumrolls… 2025 NFL Draft. Even still, it's more than nothing and the Bills will be saving around one million dollars in cap space.
The trade could also be perceived as a signal of Von Miller's status entering the season. It's unclear whether or not he'll come off PUP yet but the Bills Mafia could be hours away from getting an answer. Based on the depth at edge rusher without Basham, the trade suggests that Von is coming back in time for the season.
UPDATE AFTER PUBLISHING: Von Miller is officially starting the year on Reserve/PUP. This means it's probably Kingsley Jonathan who'll make the roster, thus making Basham tradeable.
Or, it could also mean that second-year UDFA Kingsley Jonathan. a hidden gem in the eyes of many, could have earned a spot on the roster.
We'll find out which of the two it is very soon. In the meantime, check out our roster cuts tracker below and stay tuned with all things Bills right here.
