The Buffalo Bills need help getting after the quarterback.
After Von Miller went down with an ACL injury, Buffalo struggled. Their lack of pass rush wasn't the only reason they were unable to survive Cincinnati in the playoffs, but it did play a major role.
While the team hopes to see important strides out of some of their younger players like Greg Rousseau, Boogie Basham, or even A.J Epensa, the team may have a solution in free agency that could dramatically improve that pass-rushing room.
The Buffalo Bills have been linked for former All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler Justin Houston. Houston has enjoyed a successful NFL career that's seen him play for the Kanas City Chiefs, Indianapolis Colts, and most recently the Baltimore Ravens.
NFL insider Matt Lombardo of Heavy reported that several teams have expressed significant interest in Houston. Buffalo, like so many times this offseason, has been called a top destination to land the veteran pass rusher.
Lombardo was direct in how Houston could benefit the McDermott-led defense, "Houston would serve as another fastball in Sean McDermott’s defense, bolstering a pass rush that produced only 40 sacks as a team."
Houston is entering his 13th NFL season with no signs of slowing down. While only appearing in 14 games and included in 44% of the team's defensive snaps, Houston shined in his limited role. The 34-year-old posted a team-leading 9.5 sacks.
To put it into perspective, had Houston been on the Bills team last year with the same numbers, he would've finished first overall. Needless to say, that kind of production would go a long way for a team looking to win their first-ever Super Bowl.
If Buffalo is looking to win a championship and potentially pushing most of their chips to the middle of the pot to go "all-in" then Houston makes sense. He would get a chance to play with one of the very best teams in the NFL for a shot at winning a Super Bowl.
Von Miller had spent months trying to recruit OBJ and DeAndre Hopkins. With the team drafting Kincaid in hopes to be a top target for Allen, perhaps the recruiting should focus on the defensive side of the football.
Here's hoping Beane has some offseason magic up his sleeve.
