The Buffalo Bills might've missed out on Christian McCaffrey (fortunately, considering the price tag) but when the trade deadline is so close, speculation shall not halt.

After all, the Bills should be looking at every possible move that improves their chances of winning it all. And while the team's most significant need remains at the offensive line, the front office could exploit the fact that there's a position group with plenty of supply and not that much demand.

Wide receiver.

And while we could point toward better-known names like Chase Claypool and Denzel Sims, the one to catch the Bills' eyes might just fall on Kendrick Bourne from the New England Patriots.

That was Joe DiBiase's suggestion on Twitter and I've got to tell you it makes a lot of sense to me. Keep in mind Bourne is expected to be available ahead of the deadline per ESPN's Dan Graziano.

DiBiase, the Buffalo Bills Radio Network Pregame Host, questions if Bill Belichick would make some in-division trade. That's fair, but history tells us yes, he would. Just think about 2019 when the Patriots traded the late Demaryius Thomas to the New York Jets.

Or if you want a Bills-specific example, take yourself back to 2002 when the Patriots sent Drew Bledsoe to Buffalo.

That being said, Bourne would make a lot of sense for the Bills. While the Bills are already deep at wide receiver, they could use a backup with experience that can start outside. Both Isaiah McKenzie and rookie Khalil Shakir are quite good but both project better in the slot.

Bourne could step up in the event Stefon Diggs or Gabe Davis can't go any given week. If there's one thing you learn from watching the NFL for a long time is that sometimes it's not the best team that wins deep into the season but the healthiest.

That's why one of the biggest strengths of the 2022 Bills is their insane depth at most positions. Building on that would go a long way to finally landing that Lombardi Trophy everyone in Buffalo is craving.

Plus, as DiBiase points out in his tweet, Bourne is a monster when it comes to yards after the catch.

This season his stats are not otherworldly (how much can you do in a limited offense?) but if you go back to 2021, you'll find Bourne averaged 7.2 yards after the catch. That was good for sixth in the NFL last year.

Bourne shouldn't be super expensive either and with a deal that runs through 2023, the Bills would be getting help beyond this season.
