Bills use newly acquired cap space to re-sign veteran defender
What else does Buffalo have up its sleeve?
The Buffalo Bills are continuing to take it easy early in free agency and announced Tuesday that they’re re-signing linebacker/special-teamer Tyrel Dodson to a one-year contract.
Dodson entered the NFL in 2019 as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M. He’s played in 42 games and made five starts over the last three seasons. He made 32 tackles, one sack, on tackle for loss, one BQ hit and one fumble recovery in 2022.
The terms of Dodson’s contract were not disclosed. He could take on a bigger defensive role after Buffalo lost linebacker Tremaine Edmunds to the Chicago Bears in free agency.
Dodson has played 67 percent of special teams snaps in each of the last two seasons. He played 26 percent of defensive snaps in 2020 and 21 percent in 2022 after more of a reduced defensive role in 2021.
The Bills recently created nearly $32 million in cap space by restructuring Josh Allen and Von Miller’s contracts. They previously were over the salary cap. The biggest move Buffalo made so far was signing former Dallas Cowboys guard Connor McGovern.
