While some fans have called for Sean McDermott to be fired after the Buffalo Bills' playoff loss, there's one thing that's inarguable. McDermott has completely turned the franchise around.
Since his arrival, McDermott has taken a team starving for success to become a perennial playoff team in a short time. The tandem of Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane has been a game-changer for the organization.
McDermott gets unbelievable honor
Now, the Bills' head coach has received another distinct honor, further cementing his legacy.
The Buffalo Bills official Twitter account made the announcement. Sean McDermott, a former William and Mary college athlete, has been inducted into their Athletics Hall of Fame.
McDermott spent time on the wrestling team at the college, establishing himself with his work ethic and constant desire to do better. These values translated well into his professional career.
Buffalo's head coach has coined many phrases over the years that indicate what type of mentality he brings to the team, and one he wants the roster to emulate. Humble and hungry, championship caliber, find a way, there are plenty of catchy phrases McDermott has adopted over the years. More importantly, he has found a way to back them up.
Can't escape his past
In fact, it's a joke around Bills Mafia circles that if a player is going through the draft and spent time as a wrestler, McDermott will be interested. His success in college translated well into his head coaching career. Specifically, this past year McDermott was able to pass legendary Bills coach Marv Levy in win percentage, a feat no fan thought possible.
The Buffalo Bills are in the midst of one of the most important offseasons in recent memory. Bills Mafia should rest easy with Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane at the helm.
If McDermott continues his NFL success and brings the franchise their first ever Super Bowl, he may be inducted into a different Hall of Fame.
