At this point, the Buffalo Bills defense is being held together by hand-me-down duct tape and bubble gum. Buffalo has been snakebitten by one of the more serious injury bugs across the NFL, a trend that continued in their loss to the Bengals.

While there's no excuse for the offense which has continuity on the offensive line, Josh Allen at QB, a first-round pick at TE in Dalton Kincaid, and a superstar WR in Stefon Diggs, the defense is failing in large part due to injuries. They are depleted across the board and have become moreso in the loss to the Bengals.

Coming into the game the team was already without Tre'Davious White, Matt Milano, and DaQuan Jones. Luckily the team brought in some reinforcements with Linval Joseph and Rasul Douglas, and the emergence of Terrel Bernard has been a sight to behold.

However, Bernard and Dane Jackson, who is already coming in to replace others who have been injured, went down during the contest, a hobbled defense hit with even more bad news. What's more, Christian Benford went down in the contest, forcing Josh Norman to see a few reps toward the end of the game.

After the game, Sean McDermott opened up on the injuries with his final thoughts before walking out of the room. You can find his comments at the 42:30 mark of the video below.

McDermott, when asked about the injuries offered very little for us to feel comfortable about moving forward. When two of your starters go out and don't return to the contest, fans and the media are rightfully worried.

Leave it up to McDermott to do nothing to ease our minds with his response. When speaking on the injuries, McDermott offered, "Christian (Benford) tweaked his hamstring so he got pulled out, and then Dane (Jackson) at the end of the game as well. Not his hamstring, but something else."

As injuries pile up, the head coach offering a cryptic response and not diving into other players' statuses just adds more fuel to the dumpster fire that this team has been deploying on the football field.

Get healthy, get better, do whatever you need to do. We're at the midway point of the NFL season and the future hasn't looked worse.
