The Buffalo Bills got some immediate help in the cornerback room with the addition of former Packers CB Rasul Douglas. Ian Rapaport broke the news that Buffalo would be shipping off a third-round pick for Douglas and a fifth from the Packers.

Douglas is a vocal leader in the locker room and immediately fills a position of need. While he may not be the flashiest player, he has a history of running a zone scheme which should bring a smile to Sean McDermott's face.

However, it appears that Douglas wasn't their main target, as the team was reportedly looking elsewhere to fill the void until he became unavailable. I previously wrote about how the Bills had shown interest in Bears CB Jaylon Johnson, but conversations had fizzled and Beane and the front office needed to immediately pivot to facilitate a trade to get some help in the cornerback room.

Jordan Schultz broke the news that Buffalo had made an aggressive attempt to trade for Johnson before ultimately backing out and looking elsewhere in the division for help, which had the team landing Douglas instead.

Brandon Beane had hopes of bringing in Johnson, their clear option for a unit that desperately needs some reinforcements. However, Beane didn't let that stop him from making the team better with a splash trade just moments before the deadline closed.

At the end of the day, despite not getting who they originally wanted, Buffalo landed an above-average cornerback who can play opposite Christian Benford. What's more, they have two of the best safeties behind them, ready to pick up any missed coverages that come their way. The cherry on top is the kind of leader that Douglas is in the locker room. Sean McDermott has completely shifted the culture in Buffalo to a championship-caliber mindset and bringing in a vocal leader aids that mentality.

It's not Jaylon Johnson, but Brandon Beane and the Bills Mafia should be thrilled at the team going out and getting Douglas.
