The Buffalo Bills made an important roster move, bringing back unheralded hero LB Tyler Matakevich off the PUP list. Matakevich is a special teams ace that is looking to once again make a difference this season.
Aaron Wilson helped break the news of the move, giving Sean McDermott yet another weapon at his disposal. Matakevich was placed on the PUP list at the start of training camp but quickly found his way off that list with the latest news.
Matakevich is a crucial piece of this Buffalo Bills team after joining the organization in 2020. Recently, Matakevich signed a two-year deal with the team as a free agent and was re-signed to an extension last offseason on another one-year deal. The talented linebacker is looking for another impressive season on the special teams unit.
In three seasons with the team, Matakevich has amassed 48 tackles, three passes defended, and an interception. What's even more impressive is that Matakevich led the team in 2020, 2021, and last season with 79% of the special team's snaps.
In the past few weeks, Buffalo had also activated Jordan Phillips from the PUP list, giving the team almost a full bill of health outside of Von Miller, who is still on the PUP after suffering a torn ACL against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving last year.
The eight-year veteran from Temple started his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2016-2019 before joining forces with the Buffalo Bills organization. Over his lengthy career Matakevich has been activated for 112 games with one game started, he has managed to get 125 combined tackles with 4 passes defended and an interception.
With sky-high expectations coming into the season, getting Matakevich back healthy is a huge win for the organization. McDermott and the front office love him, and it's easy to see why.
