Every NFL fan knows the name of every premier Buffalo Bills player. Josh Allen, Von Miller, Stefon Diggs, and even safeties Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde.
But defensive tackles – unless their name is Aaron Donald – can go unnoticed by the everyday fan even if it's actually one of the most fun positions to focus on. That's why even nine years into his NFL career, some people are just learning about DaQuan Jones.
The Bills' defensive tackle has had quite a season in 2022, his first with the team. And when you see charts like the one in the tweet below, you truly realize the kind of impact he's made in Buffalo.
The chart measures how often a player is double-teamed (left-to-right) and how often he "wins" his pass rush snap (down-up). As you can see, the closer you are to the upper right corner, the most impactful your performance.
See those three names all by themselves? Everyone knows who Chris Jones and Aaron Donald are. But now they're taking notice of DaQuan Jones, whose name is up there with those two living legends. How can you miss his name?
The Bills' one-technique defensive tackle has racked up 12 quarterback pressures and eight defensive "stops" (measured by PFF as tackles that result in an unsuccessful play for the offense).
But beyond his own stats, Jones has helped other players in Buffalo make a huge impact. Evidently, if you're getting double-teamed, it means the offense has fewer players to account for Von Miller, A.J. Epenesa, and others.
Not to mention, all of the love the Bills' linebackers are getting has to do with that 320-pound, space-eating defensive lineman. With him occupying offensive linemen, Matt Milano and Tremaine Edmunds have cleaner reads to work with.
Don't let his under-the-radar position fool you. DaQuan Jones is one of the most important pieces of the Bills' defense right now and was another home run by the front office.
