The Buffalo Bills updated the status of Damar Hamlin early Tuesday morning after the defensive back collapsed on the field after tackling Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins in the first quarter of Monday night's game.
According to the Bills, Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest after he tackled Higgins. His heartbeat had to be restored on the field. Hamlin is currently at UC Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.
Bills Statement: Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.
According to ESPN, CPR was administered to Hamlin on the field after he stood from a tackle and subsequently collapsed. He received oxygen as he was loaded into an ambulance 16 minutes after the initial hit.
Monday night's game was postponed after multiple discussions between Bills head coach Sean McDermott, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, and the NFL.
ESPN reported that the NFL said during a conference call just after midnight that no decision has been made on resuming the game or when it could be rescheduled.
Bills players returned to Buffalo shortly after midnight.
