The Bills Mafia love their darkhorse, longshot candidates. It could be that for years the Buffalo Bills were underdogs themselves, so the fanbase latches on to those types of players. Everyone loves a good redemption story, or in this case, a comeback story.
Let's go down the list with hyped-up preseason players who some of the Bills Mafia have latched onto. Full transparency, I bought into the hype for these players too. From Duke Wiliams to Dez Lewis, Raheem Blackshear, Christian Wade, Brandon Riley, Da'Rick Rogers, and now the latest camp hero and underdog, Andy Isabella.
I previously wrote about Isabella being brought in for a workout and then the team signed him. I even wrote about Isabella being a longshot and how his destiny was in his own hands.
If Isabella can ball out and secure a contract, training camp is about to be a whole lot more interesting. While a long shot to make the team, it's all on Isabella and what he can accomplish in his upcoming workout.
It seems like he got that memo as Isabella has been taking first-team reps at practice.
In his short career, as I previously wrote, Isabella has amassed 33 catches for 447 yards and three touchdowns. During his tenure with the Arizona Cardinals, Kliff Kingsbury and the coaching staff just couldn't find a way to get him on the field. The same can be said after joining the Baltimore Ravens, he just wasn't able to find the field, which could ultimately prove fruitful for Brandon Beane and the Bills.
The speedster, after just a few days to learn the playbook, entered the first preseason game and immediately made a difference, showcasing his elite speed and ability to go up and get the football.
If Brandon Beane is able to throw a flier out on a guy and find a Cole Beasley-light type player, this could be a huge get for Josh Allen and the offense. It isn't with splash signings or drafting the right players, sometimes a diamond in the rough just falls into your lap.
While the Buffalo Bills have already outsmarted math itself by turning Josh Allen into an elite quarterback, maybe Beane can do it again with the already camp hero that is Andy Isabella.
Everyone loves a good underdog story, we just need to find a catchy thing to yell when he's on the field.
Bills’ Brandon Beane looks like a genius after the Patriots signed Ezekiel Elliott
The Buffalo Bills, without making a move, showed up the New England Patriots after they signed RB Ezekiel Elliott. We haven’t been able to say that a whole lot in 20 years.
