The Buffalo Bills made a surprising roster addition on Tuesday morning.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Bills are signing wide receiver Cole Beasley to their practice squad.

Garafolo noted that he expects Beasley to be promoted to the active roster in "short order".

Beasley spent three seasons with the Bills (2019-2021) before signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this season. The former SMU standout played in two games for the Bucs this season before announcing his retirement.

This move comes as a surprise because of Beasley's retirement announcement earlier this season.

When Beasley announced his retirement, he said, via a statement from his agent, that he was ready to be a full-time dad.

Maybe that was his delicate way of saying that he just didn't want to play for the Bucs anymore.

The Bills have been in the market for a wide receiver in recent weeks. Odell Beckham Jr was a possibility, but he isn't expected to be ready to play until the postseason. Buffalo obviously needs help at the position before the postseason.

Beasley, thanks to his familiarity with the Bills' offense, should be able to step in and contribute immediately.

Last season, Beasley caught a career-high 82 passes for Buffalo.
