Good news and bad news for the Buffalo Bills (13-3).
The good news is Damar Hamlin is breathing on his own. Speaking to the team through a FaceTime call, taking away an enormous weight off the team.
Even posting on social media that he's doing better and recognizes all the love and support he continues to receive.
However, the bad news is the result of a trickle-down effect. To no one's fault directly.
With the NFL's decision to cancel the Bills-Bengals game, it took the power away from Buffalo to control their own destiny.
Instead, the Kansas Chiefs victory in Week 18 gives them the number one seed. Despite having lost to both the Bills and Cincinnati Bengals this season.
Even further is that the number one seed also takes away QB Josh Allen's last attempts to win MVP.
Coming into this weekend -1400 behind Mahomes, Allen's best bet was to secure the number one seed in the AFC. Over the last 10 years, not only has every MVP been a quarterback, but the majority come from the number one seed.
Again, this is to no one's fault directly. With the circumstances surrounding Hamlin and both teams, it would be nearly impossible to finish the game and still be able to play this weekend's matchup.
However, circumstances being what they are, Mahomes is likely going to be the clear-cut MVP winner.
Which is unfortunate for the Buffalo Bills quarterback who had such a strong and dominant start to the season before the team's two-game skid in the middle of the season. Pushing Allen's odds further down.
The Super Bowl is still a definite possibility and even though the Bills won't get the number one seed, they will get a neutral field site should these two teams meet in the AFC Championship game.
