The DeAndre Hopkins to Buffalo Bills hype train is officially over.
Doug Kyed, of AtoZ Sports, broke the news on Twitter that Hopkins will be signing a deal with the Tennessee Titans. Months of speculation are finally over as Hopkins lands in Tennessee.
What a whirlwind it's been. From Hopkins posting a message including "Buffalo" on an Instagram post, to coming out and saying he wants to play with Josh Allen, to even Brandon Beane opening up on the talented receiver, it looked like Hopkins might join the Bills.
In fact, Buffalo was the betting favorite to land Hopkins. However, this past week it seemed that things took a turn for the worse. Whether Hopkins knew he was signing with Tennesse before today is unclear, but he shut Buffalo down with a few emojis.
Jeff Darlington had gone on The Rich Eisen Show to talk all things football. When Hopkins to Buffalo was brought up, Darlington offered that if Hopkins wanted to chase a ring, there would be a spot for him.
Within days Hopkins had quickly put that to rest with 2 simple emojis that quickly took the internet by storm. It seems as though that was the final nail in the coffin. Buffalo unfortunately missed out on a superstar receiver to pair with Josh Allen.
Ian Rapoport reported that Hopkins is getting a 2-year, $26M deal worth up to $32M in incentives. Furthermore, he gets a base of $12M in the first year with a chance to earn up to $15M.
While it was a bit longer than the Antonio Brown to Buffalo rumblings, the Hopkins saga has officially come to a close. Either way, Buffalo has sky-high expectations this season and is going to compete for a chance to win a Super Bowl.
While some fans may be upset with the team not being able to land Hopkins, there is plenty of talent to go around. Buffalo just drafted the best tight end in the draft, Gabe Davis is about to take another step, and the team still has Stefon Diggs.
The future is bright in Buffalo, with or without Hopkins.
