The Buffalo Bills won an emotional contest against their division rival New England Patriots to secure the two seed in the NFL playoffs.
Fairy tales aren't written as well as what happened on the field in Buffalo. Nyheim Hines wound up taking the opening kickoff for a touchdown in the first game after Damar Hamlin's traumatic injury.
Moreso, the touchdown is even more impressive when you understand the context and history behind it.
The entire week leading up to the game has been primarily focused on the recovery of Damar Hamlin.
The road to recovery
Since suffering his injury, Hamlin has begun the road to rehabilitation and made some significant progress. From breathing on his own to sending out posts on social media, to flexing on facetime with his teammates, it's all been encouraging.
The latest update has been the most important. Damar Hamlin has left the hospital and will be transferring to a local Buffalo hospital.
Immediately after the news broke, Hamlin went viral with a message he wrote to fans upon his release.
The entire country is with Hamlin and the Buffalo Bills during the talented safety's recovery. Hamlin made sure to point out what was most important to him, describing his overall love of everyone who has helped him along the way.
Emotions were high and will continue to be during every phase of the talented safety's recovery.
Hamlin strong
Buffalo is gearing up for the first round of playoffs against the Miami Dolphins. The positive updates will do wonders for the team's mental health as they continue toward the ultimate goal of a Super Bowl.
If Damar Hamlin were somehow able to make it to the game to be in attendance, it would continue this fairy tale storyline that has spread like wildfire across social media. But obviously, first things first.
Buffalo has seemingly the entire country behind them this postseason. As was with the last win, the rest of the season will be for number three.
