Some things are bigger than sports.
Josh Allen, once again, is showing the world why he's not only one of the best quarterbacks in the league, but people. The Buffalo Bills franchise quarterback has quickly made a name for himself on and off the field.
Allen is participating in the 2023 edition of ESPN's 'My Wish' campaign. The program focuses on children involved in the Make-A-Wish program, helping kids with a critical illness achieve one of their lifelong wishes.
Foarde, a two-time cancer survivor, had his wish of becoming a member of the Buffalo Bills granted. Foarde and his family were flown out to Highmark Stadium to spend a day with Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.
Speaking on the day, Foarde was ecstatic. “I was just so, so excited. Excited is the best word to describe it,” Foarde continued. “I had a few other things I was thinking about. But, none of them stood out like being a Buffalo Bill, being a player, and seeing what that looks like and feels like.”
The ESPN segment is one that has quickly gone viral. Allen and Caleb Foarde spent some time last season at the Buffalo Bills' practice which is what the segment focused on. Not only Foarde's journey but his incredible day with Allen and the team.
The segment had everything. However, some of the more surprising and impactful moments were with some of the players, providing an inside look at their lives. Caleb had the chance to meet Damar Hamlin, David Quessenberry, Tyrel Dodson, and so many others.
Quessenberry talked with Caleb about his own cancer diagnosis a few years ago, Dodson being a former Texas A&M Aggie signed a jersey for Caleb and Brandon Beane and the front office hooked Caleb up with his own locker and even a contract signing him to the team.
Caleb was even given the honor of calling a few plays, stepping in for Ken Dorsey, before ending the day beating Allen in FIFA and then breaking down the Bills' practice.
Josh Allen, and the rest of the Buffalo Bills players, understand the importance of the Bills Mafia. The fanbase is so much more than smashing tables, they are a diehard fanbase grounded in love. Foarde's story isn't one that will soon be forgotten, and his and Allen's relationship will forever be remembered.
Foarde had a special message that everyone can get behind, adding more emotion to the already emotional story. His advice was simple, “My big thing is getting through it – getting through it with positivity and being positive to the people around you. Letting people love on you, loving on everyone else and just keeping going, keeping a good attitude.”
As Foarde mentioned, and something we can all get behind, just keep going. Choose love.
