Buffalo Bills wide receiver Gabe Davis has the opportunity to become one of the NFL’s biggest breakout players this season. Though Bills fans are mindful of Davis’ development as he enters his third season in the league, his name is not brought up enough when national talking heads discuss the strengths of this potent Bills offense.

As if his offseason hasn’t already been spectacular, Davis added a highlight reel touchdown grab in the Bills’ preseason matchup against the Denver Broncos on Saturday.

Quarterback Josh Allen made his preseason debut and connected with Davis on a 28-yard touchdown pass. Allen did his best ballerina impersonation as he used a pirouette in the pocket to stay on his feet before delivering a dart to Davis.

Davis finished the day with two receptions on three targets, good for 47 yards and a score. After his first two seasons in Buffalo, the chemistry between Allen and Davis is reaching its peak.

Drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Davis has put together consecutive seasons eclipsing 500 receiving yards as a supplementary option for Allen. His role in the offense for the 2022-23 campaign will look much different than what he has been used to.

The Bills are counting on Davis to be the team’s No. 2 option behind one of the game’s best wideouts in Stefon Diggs. While Diggs will command most of the opposition’s attention, Davis should have plenty of opportunities to make an impact.

Defensive coordinators will have to pick their poison when deciding how to cover Diggs, Davis, the up-and-coming Isaiah McKenzie, and tight end Dawson Knox. More often than not, Davis will be matchup up against the defense’s No. 2 cornerback which puts him in position to succeed.

The national media can sleep on Davis all they want, but they’ll be in for a rude awakening. Davis has the potential to put up double-digit touchdown numbers and is expected to flirt with his first 1,000-yard season of his career.
