The Buffalo Bills lost more than just a game in Sunday’s AFC Divisional Round loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. While the Bills’ season has come to a conclusion, there’s reason to believe one star’s tenure in Buffalo has ended as well.
Bills safety Jordan Poyer has been the heartbeat of Buffalo’s secondary since his arrival in 2017. Unfortunately, the All-Pro defensive back left Sunday’s loss in an unceremonious fashion.
Poyer collided with cornerback Tre’Davious White near the endzone on a Joe Burrow pass attempt intended for Tee Higgins. White was flagged for pass interference on the play, but the Bills’ duo both trotted back to the locker room after colliding in an attempt to break up the pass.
Poyer’s contract situation provides a difficult decision for Bills general manager Brandon Beane in the 2023 offseason. Set to turn 32 this offseason, Poyer will enter this spring as an unrestricted free agent. His market value is projected to be north of $11 million per year, according to Spotrac.
Though he has been instrumental to the Bills’ defense over the years, Buffalo could opt to get younger at the position, while simultaneously being more cost efficient. If that happens to be the case, Poyer has likely played his last snap as a Bill.
