As if Sunday’s loss to the New York Jets wasn’t bad enough, the Buffalo Bills are holding its breath when it comes to the health of its superstar quarterback Josh Allen.
Allen injured his elbow as his Bills fell to the Jets in Week 9 by the score of 20-17. While there hasn’t been an official diagnosis yet, ESPN’s Chris Mortenson reports that doctors are looking at Allen’s ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) and related nerves.
Bills Mafia will likely have to wait until Tuesday before they receive clarity on Allen’s status. On Monday, Bills head coach Sean McDermott said the team is still evaluating the injury, though he did add that he expects to know more in the next 24 hours.
Considering Allen’s injury is on his throwing arm, the fear is that the MVP frontrunner could miss some time. After all, this wouldn’t be the first time Allen has dealt with this sort of thing.
Allen missed four games in his rookie season (2018) with a sprained UCL. While it is unlikely that this injury ends his season, Buffalo could lose hold of their No. 1 spot in the AFC if he is to miss a chunk of time.
One positive sign is that right after the injury supposedly occurred, Allen uncorked a 70-yard deep ball intended for Gabe Davis.
Bills Mafia awaits the next update with bated breath. Back-up quarterback Case Keenum figures to start if Allen is unable suit up for the Bills’ Week 10 matchup at home against the Minnesota Vikings.
