For all the success C.J. Stroud has enjoyed through the first seven weeks of the NFL season, the Carolina Panthers are attempting to quiet any speculation that they don't believe in their guy — Bryce Young.
Recently, the team's newly-minted play caller and offensive coordinator, Thomas Brown, gave Stroud his flowers — but also reassured the public the Panthers are still happy with Young thus far.
"I got a ton of respect for C.J.," Brown said. "He is playing really well right now. They’re doing a great job as far as preparing him week in and week out. But there’s no doubt that we’re. I am — we all are happy about Bryce being our quarterback — and we’ll keep building forward with him.”
Currently, Stroud is outpacing Young in counting stats. Stroud has racked up 1,660 yards and nine touchdowns. It also helps that the Houston Texans are 3-3.
Meanwhile, Young hasn't surpassed the 1,000-yard marker yet this season. He also hasn't secured the Panthers' first win of the season.
But those lack of accomplishments haven't changed Brown's assessment of his first-year quarterback.
"He's the guy for us," Brown said.
Young will have a chance to prove his worth against Stroud's team come Sunday. It won't be a definitive moment, but a victory could put a feather in the cap of Young's hat for some time.
Report: Brian Burns not available ahead of Oct. 31 trade deadline
After weeks of speculation, reports suggest that the Carolina Panthers are telling teams not to call if they are inquiring about team captain Brian Burns.
