The Carolina Panthers are reportedly going to meet with former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel on Thursday in Charlotte in regards to their open head coaching position.

Vrabel was set to meet with the Atlanta Falcons on Wednesday before heading to Charlotte.

Vrabel, who won three Super Bowls as a linebacker with the New England Patriots, was fired by the Titans earlier this month despite being named the NFL coach of the year in 2021. He led Tennessee to two AFC South division titles and an appearance in the AFC Championship game during his six seasons in Nashville.

Over the last two years, however, the Titans went through a transition at the general manager position, resulting in a roster that had several gaping holes — especially on the offensive side of the ball.

Earlier this week, the Panthers promoted Dan Morgan from assistant general manager to general manager.

Morgan, of course, played linebacker for the Panthers from 2001 to 2007.

In early 2004, Carolina played New England in Super Bowl XXXVIII. Vrabel suited up at linebacker for the Patriots while Morgan played linebacker for the Panthers.

While that unique connection doesn't necessarily give Vrabel an advantage in the Panthers' search for a new head coach, it shows that Morgan and Vrabel will likely have a LOT of common ground when they speak on Thursday. These are two men that essentially came up during the same generation of football. They speak the same language.

Another fun fact about Vrabel and the Panthers is that Vrabel returned an interception for a touchdown in a game in 2005 in Charlotte. The Panthers, though, won the game 27-17 against Vrabel and the Patriots.
