Panthers HC Dave Canales adds insight into Xavier Legette's latest injury
Xavier Legette has a hamstring injury, forcing the Panthers to take a “cautious” approach.
Though worries abound regarding Xavier Legette's hamstring injury, Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales is saying calm down.
Legette missed Wednesday's practice, sidelined with rookie running back Jonathon Brooks, who is still recovering from an ACL injury.
The reason for Legette not practicing, as Canales told reporters, was out of an abundance of caution.
"[It was] Just a precaution,” Canales said. "What happens a lot with rookies—they come out here, it’s a different level of work. And it’s not that they haven’t practiced this long, but everyone’s fast. Everyone’s going. And of course, with their wheels turning, there’s a strain on the brain, there’s also a strain on the body."
As the Panthers are gearing up for a busy summer, Legette's health is paramount. He will play a central role in the reshaped offense, designed to get the most out of second-year quarterback Bryce Young.
The nature of Legette's hamstring injury isn't all too serious, Canales said.
“He just looked tight,” Canales said. “He just had a moment in practice where he started to slow down. The trainers started talking to him immediately… Let’s be smart about it at this point.”
All is well for Legette, practice or not.
