Week 5 has to be the week the Carolina Panthers put to bed one of the most embarrassing streaks in NFL history.

In case you missed it, the Panthers are the first team since 2013 to start the season 0-4 while leading in every game they play.

No, that isn't a joke.

Against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1, the Panthers led 10-7 before Atlanta grabbed the lead and never looked back. In Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints, the Panthers led 3-0 late in the first quarter and lost. Against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3, the Panthers were leading by one score late in the second quarter before everything fell apart. Then, against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4, the Panthers held a lead in the second quarter before the game fell apart in front of everyone.

After each loss, Panthers head coach Frank Reich has said the Panthers are close to being the team they set out to be.

But the saying goes, close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

Against the Detroit Lions, the Panthers are looking to break the streak. So that means winning the first game of the season. With how well Detroit has played through the first month of the season, that appears to be an extremely tall task.
