News broke Wednesday that the Chicago Bears will be without OL Alex Leatherwood for at least four weeks.

The Bears placed the 17th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft on the Reserve/Non-Football Illness list after Leatherwood was diagnosed with mononucleosis.

He started all 17 games at right guard for the Las Vegas raider a season ago. However, he finished the year with 11 penalties, which was the fourth-most in the league.

Chicago claimed Leatherwood off waivers on August 31.

The Bears had been working with Leatherwood at right tackle, but his versatility on the line made him a valuable depth piece for the team’s run-first offense.

Leatherwood’s NFI designation allowed the Bears to re-sign OG Michael Schofield to the active roster. Schofield was released prior to Week 1 as part of the team’s final cuts.
