The Cincinnati Bengals made a strategic signing on Monday.

Cornerback Chidobe Awuzie suffered a torn ACL in Week 8 last season. So, with the recovery time for that particular injury varying depending on how a player heals, the Bengals have inked former first-round pick Sidney Jones to a one-year deal.

Jones spent his first three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. He was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list as a rookie due to an Achilles injury he suffered during his Pro Day. Jones was activated in December 2017 but he would only play 29 defensive snaps.

Over his next two seasons, Jones played in 21 games with eight starts racking up 48 tackles, 10 passes defended, and two interceptions (both came in 2019).

Jones suited for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020 after being waived by the Eagles during their final roster cuts. Unfortunately, he would be hit with another Achilles injury and was placed on injured reserve that December.

In March 2021, Jones signed an extension with the Jaguars but was traded to the Seattle Seahawks that August. That's where Jomes got his most extensive work logging 728 defensive snaps and amassing 66 tackles and 10 pass breakups in 16 games will 11 starts.

After signing an extension to stay in Seattle, Jones was released last November after playing in three games and then signed with the Las Vegas Raiders where he had two starts in the seven games he played in.

This provides some depth for the Bengals at the cornerback position as well as a little competition which is never a bad thing.
