The NFL has released the first date of the Cincinnati Bengals 2023 schedule, and it's one of the most important games for the entire AFC landscape. Cincinnati will travel west to face the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 17. The game is set for December 31 at 4:25pm EST

An AFC Championship redux on New Year's Eve? Sign us up immediately. The Bengals announced the date by having Cincinnati mayor Aftab Pureval make fun of himself with a simplified message for the announcement, drawing reference for when he proclaimed Joe Burrow should have to take a paternity test to determine if he's Patrick Mahomes' father.

The best part? Former Chiefs left tackle Orlando Brown recorded the announcement, giving Pureval the approval for a more mundane approach.

This will be the fifth meeting between the Bengals and Chiefs in just the last two calendar years. Their first in the Joe Burrow era came in Week 17 of the 2021 season, almost two years to the date of this upcoming game. Burrow and the Bengals clinched the AFC North title by winning that game.

While there was some speculation that the game would be the season-opener, the two teams will continue to exclusively meet late in the year. The Bengals have lost just three games in December and January in the last two years with Burrow under center.

Cincinnati has hosted the previous two regular season meetings vs. Kansas City, but this game will be in Arrowhead Stadium, the sight of the last five AFC title games, including the last two featuring Bengals. The Orange and Black are 1-1 against the current AFC champions on the road with Burrow at quarterback, with the most recent meeting being the last game they played, a 23-20 loss to the eventual Super Bowl winners.

Revenge won't be the only thing on the mind for the Bengals. The second-to-last game of the season will have obvious playoff seeding implications for two of the best teams in the entire league. Cincinnati will look to come out as the No. 1 seed for home field advantage in the playoffs instead of having to travel to Arrowhead again just to make it out of the AFC side of the bracket.
