No more No. 85 for Tee Higgins. He's downsizing back to his Clemson days.
Per the Cincinnati Bengals, Higgins has officially changed his jersey number to No. 5.
Higgins, a fourth-year player in 2023, has been planning this for a while. When he was drafted in 2020, the NFL didn't allow wide receivers to sport single-digit jersey numbers. The rule was changed a year later, allowing Ja'Marr Chase to be the first Uno in franchise history.
Higgins was allowed to change from No. 85 after his rookie year, but NFL rules stated he would've had to pay a substantial amount of money to cover the costs of buying out the existing inventory. This made him hold off until now.
The 85 jersey is iconic in Bengals lore. Isaac Curtis, Chad Johnson, and Tyler Eifert all scored several touchdowns wearing it throughout the years, but Higgins has always been No. 5 in his heart. He was No. 5 in high school back in Tennessee, and No. 5 in college at Clemson.
Now, he's the new No. 5 for the Bengals.
