Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon is scheduled to appear in court later this month for a criminal charge that has been refiled against him.

Mixon was originally charged with Aggravated Menacing for an incident that occurred on January 21 in downtown Cincinnati. He was accused of pointing a gun at someone and saying “You should be popped in the face. I should shoot you. The police can’t get me,” per court records.

On February 2, an arrest warrant was issued for Mixon for the charge and was subsequently dismissed, but was left open to be refiled.

Mixon's court date is April 19. The Cincinnati Police Department has since released a statement regarding the refiling:

"Today, the Cincinnati Police Department (CPD) has refiled a criminal charge of Aggravated Menacing, a misdemeanor of the first degree, against Mr. Joe Mixon. This decision was reached following the discovery of new evidence during the investigative process. To preserve a fair and impartial judicial process for all parties involved, no investigatory details or evidence will be disclosed outside of official court proceedings." – CPD's statement on Mixon's charge

The Bengals organization has no comment on the news, but is aware of it.

Mixon, a seventh-year player in 2023, was a second-round pick of the Bengals in the 2017 NFL Draft. He's coming off a season in which he rushed for 978 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in 17 regular and postseason games. He was also involved, but not incriminatingly, in another gun-related incident back in March on his property.

A subpar 2022 season combined with recent offseason news has made Mixon a potential cut candidate. Bengals EVP Katie Blackburn danced around the idea of Mixon returning as the team's starting running back in 2023 at the annual owners meetings.
