The Cincinnati Bengals have two of the best wide receivers in the game right now. But only one feels properly represented when you start up your Xbox or PlayStation.
Initial ratings for Madden NFL 24 have been revealed, as safeties and wide receivers were the first position groups to get their ratings announced by the game.
Ja'Marr Chase was safely in the top 10 with his rating of 94 overall, which is the sixth-highest rating. Higgins, on the other hand, barely even made the top 20.
Higgins' 87 overall rating has him tied with Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions, and Devonta Smith of the Philadelphia Eagles. 18 other receivers ahead of all of them in Madden's initial ratings.
While Higgins may not be the clear No. 1 receiver on his own team, he's easily one of the 20 best players at his position entering his 24-year old season. Being barely on the cusp of that standing feels like it's not crediting him enough.
Since 2021, Higgins is 14th among receivers in yardage despite being 27th in targets. He's one of 12 to be graded in the top 20 at the position per Pro Football Focus.
Madden ratings, of course, are only partially based on real-life production. Physical attributes like speed, acceleration, and strength are the factors that compute the overall number.
Higgins' speed and acceleration are 88 and 87, respectively. His strength is inexplicably a meager 71, but his catch in traffic is an impressive 94. These numbers are courtesy of maddenratings.com.
Deep route running is another rating that feels far too low for Higgins. An 82 for one of the better deep ball receivers in the game just doesn't seem high enough, and it's a reason why his overall has a similar feeling to it.
If nothing else, Higgins has ample room to improve his rating as the season progresses.
Bengals insider just gave Tee Higgins more negotiating power
Higgins’ value for Cincinnati is greater than you think.
