The NFL could be on the verge of making a massive mistake and it involves the Cincinnati Bengals.
On Monday, it was announced that the New Orleans Saints will be one of the three teams to "host" a game in London in 2022.
The Saints' opponent in London hasn't been announced yet.
And that's where the big mistake could be coming into play.
Nick Underhill, who covers the Saints for WWLTV in New Orleans, tweeted on Monday that his guess is that the Bengals will be the team New Orleans plays in London.
This is the worst idea possible. I understand that this is just a "guess" from Underhill. But he's a plugged-in guy in New Orleans, so I think it's worth taking seriously. And this is an option that shouldn't even be on the NFL's radar.
Sending the Bengals to London to play the Saints would rob the NFL of one of its biggest games of the year — Joe Burrow's return to Louisiana.
Burrow is a beloved figure in New Orleans and Louisiana thanks to what he accomplished at LSU (specifically in 2019, during the Tigers' incredible 15-0 championship run). Why would the NFL even consider sending him to London instead of New Orleans?
This would be an awful decision by the league. Hopefully, this doesn't come to fruition. I think we all want to see Burrow's return to Louisiana. In fact, it's a game that needs to be featured on Sunday Night Football — because it's going to be a wild atmosphere.
