It is a miracle the Cleveland Browns are 8-5 on the season with the amount of season-ending injuries they’ve suffered.

Another starter is now out for the regular season at least, as S Grant Delpit is hitting the injured reserve with a groin injury, according to a team release.

Delpit suffered the injury against the Jacksonville Jaguars, shortly after news broke he would be signing a three-year extension with the team. Cleveland and Delpit made the deal official on Tuesday.

During the 2023 season, Delpit has been one of the better strong safeties in the NFL. He has enjoyed a breakout season where he has seemingly put it all together. The former second-round pick has stayed primarily healthy after suffering an Achilles injury during his rookie season in 2020.

Delpit holds the team lead for tackles (80) and has an interception. Cleveland’s breakout safety has added 1.5 sacks on the season, too. There is a chance that Delpit will return in the playoffs if the Browns make it that far. At 8-5 on the season, they’re in prime position to do just that, but they’ll need to finish strong without one of their better defenders.

In a corresponding move, the Browns have brought up S Duron Harmon from the practice squad. Cleveland now has to hold out hope that Delpit can return for January football.
