No one pictured Joe Flacco doing what he’s done the last couple of weeks in the 2023 season and that’s why he’s now in the mix for an NFL award.
Cleveland Browns signed Flacco a few weeks ago and he’s started in two games with his first win coming this past week against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Flacco is now showing up in betting markets to be named the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year. It is pretty wild to think that bets are being placed for him to win the award with just two games played.
Buffalo Bills S Damar Hamlin is the runaway leader for winning the award. Hamlin started 13 games last season before going into cardiac arrest on the field against the Cincinnati Bengals. Hamlin has played in just three games this season but surely deserves the award. To be able to come back and ever step foot on the field after what happened is nothing short of miraculous.
So far this season, Flacco has thrown for 565 yards and five touchdowns with just two interceptions in two games. To put it in perspective, Flacco played five games for the New York Jets last season and had five touchdowns to four interceptions.
The Super Bowl-winning quarterback has given the Browns some stability this season at the most important position on the field. Cleveland needed it badly and him being the fourth quarterback to start a game this season shows that.
Flacco likely isn’t going to win the award with Hamlin having it in the bag most likely. Nonetheless, it is a cool story for Flacco and perhaps some motivation for him to finish the season even stronger.
