Cleveland Browns have made more money available whether they want to sign another player or roll it over to next year.

The Browns have restructured the contract of All-Pro LG Joel Bitonio to create $7.9 in cap room.

Now, Cleveland is sitting at just under $22.7 million in cap space currently, according to Over The Cap.

From a roster point of view, Cleveland has their team pretty well put together for 2023. This appears to be a move for the Browns to roll money over but the door is open if they want to use it now.

Cleveland has spent a ton of money this off-season on additions to their defense. They’ve brought in Za’Darius Smith, Dalvin Tomlinson, Juan Thornhill, Rodney McLeod, and Maurice Hurst to name a few. Owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam have never been shy about spending money to try to improve the team.

With this restructuring of Bitonio’s contract, he simply gets his cash spread out. Bitonio’s base salary of $14.6 million was bumped down to $6,732,000 to create $7.9 million in cap space. Then, Cleveland will spread out just under $2 million in each of the next four years additionally.

The Haslams have given Andrew Berry the ability to make moves like this to maintain roster flexibility. Such moves are important for the window the Browns want to compete in.

Cleveland had already restricted the contract of QB Deshaun Watson this last offseason to create room.

Now, Cleveland’s All-Pro left guard is in the same boat and it’s going to do nothing but help his team in the long run.
