We’re already at the mid-season point in the NFL, as things are really going quickly.
At this time of year, we’re starting to get a strong feeling of who teams are and what they are going to be.
There is no better time than now to take a look at each phase of the game for the Cleveland Browns and how they’ve done.
Offense
In Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Browns’ offense was faced with the rough loss of RB Nick Chubb. When he was hurt, there went much of the offense. Since then, the Browns running game has been up and down.
Adding in the constant chance at quarterback, the offense hasn’t been able to get going like Kevin Stefanski could have hoped. Perhaps if there is some continuity, they’ll find their footing and Week 9 against the Cardinals was a solid step in that direction.
Cleveland needs Deshaun Watson to stay healthy and limit turnovers. That will be two of the single biggest things. Amari Cooper is the big playmaker for the offense so far, he’s been stellar with 617 receiving yards.
If the offense can catch up to the defense, the Browns colluded be a team playing in late January..

Defense
We’re running out of things to say about this defense. What Jim Schwartz has come in and done with this unit deserves an award.
Cleveland has gone from one of the worst units in the NFL on defense to one of the best. In Week 9, the Browns allowed the Cardinals just 58 yards of total offense in a shutout. That’s an example of who they’ve been.
Last week against the Seahawks, the Browns had a rough start but the defense buckled down until the very last drive. The one uncharacteristic game came in Week 7 when the Indianapolis Colts scored 38 points.
If the defense continues at this rate, they’ll have multiple Pro Bowl nods on that side of the ball.

Special teams
Trading a seventh-round pick for Dustin Hopkins has paid off for the Browns. Despite one missed kick on Sunday, Hopkins has been one of the better kickers in the NFL this season. Hopkins is sitting at 18-of-20 kicks made on the season.
Bringing in Bubba Ventrone looks to be a move that has worked out for the Browns. Corey Bojorquez has been a weapon at punter for the most part this season, he’s really booted the ball with an average north of 48 yards.
Cleveland may have found something in James Proche returning punts if Week 9 was any sign. Proche came up from the practice squad and had several positive punt returns. Before Proche was handling the role, the Browns had WR Donovan Peoples-Jones out there before being traded. There hasn’t been a ton to complain about with this unit.
