Investing in the trenches is something the Cleveland Browns have done and will continue to do.
They’ve appeared to have had a visit with one of the top offensive tackles that they could have the ability to draft. BYU OT Kingsley Suamataia was recently in Cleveland, which all but signals he met with the Browns with the time of year it is.
The Browns have Jedrick Wills Jr. at left tackle on his fifth-year contract. Jack Conklin has held the right side down when healthy, but that’s the problem is being healthy. Dawand Jones stepped in at right tackle last year and showed he is already a starting-caliber player. Ideally, Jones is the right tackle of the future and the left side is undecided.
That’s where the Browns should be looking, for another tackle that can step in when needed. The attractive thing about a player like Suamataia coming in is his background playing both the left and right side. As a sophomore, he started 11 games as a right tackle, then started 11 games as a left tackle as a junior.
Cleveland loves athletic offensive linemen and that’s what Suamataia is. He has a great burst and gets to the second level quicker than most. At 6-foot-5 and 326 pounds, Suamataia is a giant of a human that has a bright NFL future ahead.
The Browns don’t have a first-round pick to grab one of the many highly touted tackles that are expected to go high. Instead, they could find that guy in the second round and there’s a chance Suamataia is that guy.
