Cleveland Browns took in their final practice before they have their second preseason game on Friday and plenty of good was on display.
The Browns will host the Washington Commanders on Friday at 7:30 p.m., in a game that Deshaun Watson will start.
Watson confirmed today he would get the start and make his 2023 preseason debut.
“We’ll play the majority of our starters in this game,” Kevin Stefanski confirmed. “Deshaun (Watson) will play in this game. We’ll see if it’s one (or) two series, we’ll kind of be playing that one by ear.”
All four quarterbacks will play on Friday, so that means backup QB Joshua Dobbs will make his preseason debut along with Watson. Kellen Mond will get a chance to improve from a shaky first game and Dorian Thompson-Robinson will look to keep the good stuff rolling.
The rookie quarterback led a Browns’ come-from-behind win last Thursday over the Jets.
Big injury update
Stefanski said today that backup RB Jerome Ford will be “week to week” going toward. That confirms the report that Ford’s status for week 1 is definitely up in the air.

In the meantime, the Browns are working out a free agent running back who they look to bring in. Jordan Wilkins is an interesting back that could provide some depth for the Browns if they choose to go that route.
What happened at practice?
Cleveland’s defense had their fair share of good plays on Wednesday, as did the offense. Newcomer S Juan Thornhill intercepted a Watson pass that was intended for WR Elijah Moore. There appeared to be some sort of miscommunication on the route that was running.
This is exactly what you want to see from your new safety who you hope can improve the back end of the defense.
Speaking of interceptions, LB Jordan Kunaszyk intercepted a pass that was tipped by CB Denzel Ward. Joshua Dobbs was the quarterback on the play of this one.
After a missed kick in the preseason opener, many thought the sky was falling with K Cade York. The second-year kicker had a pretty good day with multiple kicks made from more their 40 situations in team reps. It was a nice bounce back for York, one that the team hopes he can build off of.
Watson bounced back from the earlier interception and delivered a nice ball to TE David Njoku for the red-zone touchdown.
The Browns have the lucky (unlucky) reality of having four preseason games. They’ll be off tomorrow before Friday’s date with the Commanders. With the majority of the starters expected to play at least some, Friday should be an enticing one.
