The Alabama Crimson Tide is full steam ahead in their preparations for the 2026 season. Gathered as a team for the first time since the Rose Bowl, a new look Crimson Tide has begun spring practice in Tuscaloosa, with eyes and ears all over the offense.

A quarterback battle, a brand new offensive line, exciting freshmen at the running back and wide receiver positions, there are tons of storylines on that side of the ball. But what about the defense? Well, Alabama has a new front seven, but it has returned key starters in the secondary. One of those starters, among others, won’t be participating a ton in spring practice however.

Kalen DeBoer updates media on Alabama Crimson Tide injuries at spring practice

“There’s some guys that are still limited or out, really going back to the season. So, nothing new, nothing new that’s happened in practice the first couple days. (Jah-Marien) Latham will be out for the spring. Bray (Hubbard) will be limited, limited contact, just coming off of stuff from the fall. London Simmons will be out for the spring. (William) Sanders will be out for the spring.”

The interesting one there is Hubbard. Some of the biggest news of the transfer portal was his decision to return to Alabama and forgo the NFL Draft, where many believed he had the chance to be a mid-round pick.

The fact that he’s still dealing with something from the fall, when he started in the Rose Bowl, isn’t overly concerning, but it makes you wonder if that played into his decision not to go pro. Someone like Hubbard needs to be 100 percent healthy for on-field drills, testing, and medicals, and based on what DeBoer is saying, that didn’t seem to be the case.

Jah-Marien Latham’s absence comes as no surprise given the severity of the injury he suffered during practice in 2o25, and we will await to hear if there are more details regarding Simmons and Sanders going forward.
