The Alabama Crimson Tide had a rough Saturday. They suffered another multi-score loss to Florida State after being a multi-score favorite going in, and received some unfortunate news regarding their star wide receiver, Ryan Williams.

Following the game, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer announced that Williams had suffered a concussion after a brutal hit around the midway point of the fourth quarter. He was forced to leave the game, and targeting was initially called, but that was ultimately overturned, allowing former Crimson Tide defensive back Earl Little II, who has played for Florida State the last two years, to remain in the game.

Williams had a rough outing prior to his departure. He had hauled in five catches for 30 yards, but that’s only good for a six-yard average. Plus, he had three drops with multiple coming in critical moments. Then, to have your day ended prematurely after taking several brutal hits throughout the game, it’s an unfortunate situation for Williams and Alabama.

We’ll have to wait and see how this injury impacts the sophomore’s availability for not only Louisiana-Monroe in Week 2, but beyond. Offensive lineman Jaeden Roberts only recently returned from a multi-week absence due to a concussion. Obviously, everyone is different, but the injury to Roberts does prove that these head injuries can linger.

Hopefully, the concussion isn’t bad. First and foremost, it’s about the player’s health.
