Alabama football confirms what most fans were expecting as far as team captain picks for 2025
Alabama has officially named its four team captains for the 2025 season, which includes two on offense and two on defense.
Alabama is just over a week away from its season opener against Florida State in Tallahassee, and now fans will know exactly which players will take the field for the pregame coin toss. On Thursday, Yea Alabama officially announced the Crimson Tide’s team captains for the 2025 season.
The four players are linebacker Deontae Lawson, defensive lineman Tim Keenan III, quarterback Ty Simpson and offensive lineman Parker Brailsford. So in total, that’s three guys who have spent their entire career in Tuscaloosa with the other, Brailsford, having only played for Kalen DeBoer, whether it be at Alabama or Washington.
Lawson was already voted as a team captain last season, so it’s no surprise that he’ll reprise his role, not only as Alabama’s field general on defense, but also as a captain leading the entire team. He’s now entering his fifth season with the program, and over the last three years, he’s totaled a whopping 1,748 snaps and 26 starts.
Brailsford might only be in his second year at Alabama, but he has played 775 snaps and started all 13 games for the Crimson Tide at center, proving to be not only one of the team’s best players, but one of the top leaders too. Plus, he’s got experience with DeBoer that goes beyond just 2024. He was also Washington’s starting center in 2023, starting all 15 games and playing close to 1,000 snaps after redshirting his freshman year.
Keenan is another Alabama ironman. The instate product has spent his entire five-year career in Tuscaloosa, and has been a multi-year starter for both DeBoer and former head coach Nick Saban. In total, the 6-foot-2, 325-pound nose tackle has played 976 snaps and 25 starts, including 466 snaps and 12 starts in 2024.
Yes, it’s true that Simpson doesn’t have the snaps or starts of the other three, but he’s now entering Year 4 with the program while showing more loyalty than most. Not only that, he’s easily been one of the more vocal leaders on the team this offseason, so the former five-star recruit has more than earned his chance to be Alabama’s starter at the most critical position on the field — quarterback.
Following the season, these four players will have their names, hand and cleat prints immortalized in cement at the legendary Denny Chimes on Alabama’s campus.
