Kalen DeBoer sent a strong message regarding latest rumors, and it throws a major wrench into the Penn State coaching search
Kalen DeBoer finally denies any links to Penn State, and says Alabama is his home.
The Alabama Crimson Tide is preparing for its trip to the SEC Championship against Georgia to try to solidify its position in the College Football Playoff, but there’s always other news.
The team has some injury distractions worth keeping an eye on that won’t make the rematch any easier, but that’s not all. Alabama has also lost some of its key coaches in the latest hiring cycle, and continues to be linked to more around the country.
One of the biggest rumors going around has been Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer being linked to the Penn State head coaching job, which he finally addressed for the first time.
Kalen DeBoer shuts down all rumors linked to Penn State
Being the head coach at Alabama is one of the hardest jobs in college football, especially when you’re taking over for the greatest of all time in Nick Saban. DeBoer has done an excellent job regarding the pressure and fighting through adversity while keeping a winning culture, but people thought he might want out of it all with Penn State being a top brand and team to go to. We haven’t heard anything about it on a national level, but the rumors were flying over the last few weeks, and DeBoer shut it down for the first time in his press conference.
“We’re extremely happy at Alabama,” DeBoer said. “We’re extremely happy here. Love the challenge, love the grind, love this place. And there’s never been any link. There’s never been any conversation. There’s never been any interest either way. And so, I’m glad we can put that to bed right now.”
Take the blankets off, turn the fan on, and put it to bed if you’re still hanging onto hope that Penn State can steal DeBoer from Alabama. It’s not happening, and DeBoer is happy where he is. The only thing on DeBoer’s mind right now is winning an SEC Championship and locking in a spot for the College Football Playoff. That leaves Penn State in a unique situation as it continues to scramble for its next head coach.
Penn State is still looking for its next head coach
Penn State made the bold decision to fire James Franklin, and had no plan to replace him as they learn that the grass isn’t always greener. The Nittany Lions only signed two players yesterday for its 2026 recruiting class, as a majority followed Franklin to Virginia Tech. Penn State continues to miss out on coaching candidates after Kalani Sitake decided to stay at BYU after a strong push from the Nittany Lions, and it’s left with more questions than answers.
Penn State is running out of options, and its best bet will likely be promoting interim head coach Terry Smith after a strong push from players on social media, and the coaching funnel running dry. Penn State probably had high hopes when it fired Franklin that a coach like DeBoer would be the next guy, but it’s been a harsh reality check over the last few weeks, and not much clarity in sight.
