The 2024 college football season may not have gone as well as most Alabama Crimson Tide fans hoped it would, but Kalen DeBoer continues to make sure that he's doing all the right things to get the program back where it needs to be. And as most Alabama fans know, it all begins with winning on the recruiting trail.
Yes, the Transfer Portal and NIL has changed the game to an extent, but the same type of team still wins the most games, and ultimately the championship. The best recruiting teams dominate, and Kalen DeBoer just got some more great news on the recruiting front with yet another five star talent adding Alabama to his official finalist schools.
Cederian Morgan, Five Star Wide Receiver Recruit
Cederian Morgan, a five star wide receiver recruit from Alexander City, Alabama announced on Friday that he has narrowed his recruiting battle down to just six schools. And not only that, but he's locked in official visits with each of them. Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Colorado Georgia, and Florida all made the cut as Morgan is set to make his decision here soon.
Morgan is a hugely important recruit for Alabama as they're trying desperately to keep him away from SEC rivals, especially Auburn. Morgan's home town is situated less than 40 miles away from Auburn, and just 120 miles from Tuscaloosa. Winning this battle would obviously be a huge statement for Kalen DeBoer and his recruiting staff.
Why?
For starters, they would be winning an in-state battle for a 6'4", 210-pound extremely productive five star talent with track speed. But beyond that Alabama needs playmakers outside of just Ryan Williams on the perimeter in the coming seasons. Germie Bernard might do well enough this fall alongside Williams for Alabama's offense to sustain some level of explosiveness. However, adding another five star recruit to pair with the dynamic young (now 18-year-old) Williams would do wonders for five star quarterback Keelon Russell as he eventually takes the reins in Tuscaloosa.
While six schools are considered official finalists with Morgan, most experts and sources close to the recruitment really believe it's a 2-3 school battle. Clemson, Colorado, and Georgia are all three likely just as ornamental programs in this final process, but Morgan is still visiting with all of them this summer too. Florida is the one extra school outside of Alabama and Auburn who has been gaining some momentum with his visit choice priority (they were one of the first confirmed) and recent quotes from Morgan himself.
If DeBoer can win this recruitment, that may jumpstart the 2026 recruiting class for Alabama that only has three commits so far. Hopefully the dedication to Ryan Williams' immediate opportunity in 2024 paired with a five star quarterback and strong offensive system are enough for the Crimson Tide to beat out Auburn and Florida.
