Alabama takes a hit at key position during National Signing Day at the hands of SEC rivals, but fans shouldn’t be concerned
Alabama lost two WR recruits in its 2026 class, but kept its star Cederian Morgan.
It’s that time of the year, as chaos ensues around the country with the National Signing Day early period underway, while Alabama prepares for the SEC Championship against Georgia.
The Alabama Crimson Tide is in a great position, with the sixth-best recruiting class for 2026 and many players who can contribute right away next season. Many top recruits made it official today as they signed with Alabama, but there were a few losses along the way on the first day of the early signing period.
The offense took a loss, as two wide receivers decided to flip last minute to rival SEC teams, and will have to face Alabama in the near future instead.
WR Owen Cabell flips to Vanderbilt
Alabama has loaded up on offense for the 2026 recruiting class, but it lost a great route runner in Owen Cabell, who flipped to the Vanderbilt Commodores on the first day of the early signing period.
Cabell is a 3-star recruit who has played better than his ranking as the 633rd overall player in the class by ON3/Rivals. He already has the size at 6-3, 205 pounds, and now he’ll be catching passes from the top quarterback recruit in the class, Jared Curtis, who flipped as well. Vanderbilt was always a contender, with Cabell being from Nashville, Tennessee, and he wasn’t the only wide receiver Alabama lost today.
WR Brian Williams flips to Auburn
Alabama lost its second wide receiver of the day when Brian Williams decided to go to its in-state rival, Auburn. Williams is a 6-4, 200-pound receiver from Florida who had an interest in South Florida before head coach Alex Golesh was hired as Auburn’s new head coach.
Despite losing two wide receivers to SEC rivals on the same day, Alabama’s 2026 recruiting class has set up nicely at the position, with Cederian Morgan as the headliner.
Alabama has its star recruit at wide receiver in Cederian Morgan
Morgan is the fifth-ranked wide receiver in the 2026 recruit class according to ON3/Rivals, and looks to be the next great for Alabama. The 5-star wide receiver is already built for Alabama at 6-4 and 220 pounds. He will be an absolute nightmare for the SEC as a freshman, and he dominated in high school.
Terrell Owens compared Morgan to Julio Jones, which is the highest praise you can get in Tuscaloosa. So yes, Alabama did lose two wide receiver recruits, but it had its star recruit, Morgan, become official today. Alabama still has a lot of youth on the roster as well, with Ryan Williams, Lotzeir Brooks, Rico Scott, and Derek Meadows. The offense will be in great hands for years to come.
