The Alabama Crimson Tide went into Atlanta and left with a shockingly bad loss against the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship.

The biggest question after a loss where the team looked out of it from the start was how bad the College Football Playoff selection committee would punish Alabama. Well, the verdict is in, and the selection committee got it right by putting Alabama in the College Football Playoff.

Alabama has secured the No. 9 seed in the playoff and will be going to Oklahoma on December 19th to get revenge on a regular-season loss.

Alabama makes the CFB Playoff as the No. 9 seed

Despite the eye test in the SEC Championship, the College Football Playoff selection committee rewarded Alabama for playing in the conference championship while other teams didn’t. The committee took the full season-long resume and put Alabama in with a chance to show it deserved a spot.

“The Alabama Crimson Tide stays put at No.9 despite the poor showing against the Georgia Bulldogs. What the committee just told you is that a win over the SEC Champions sealed the deal for the Crimson Tide. You can argue that Alabama hasn’t looked great over the last month, but the truth is, Alabama has a middle-of-the-year stretch that no one else in college football has. A stretch where they beat four ranked opponents. A stretch that sent Alabama to Atlanta as the number one overall seed in the SEC.” – Rob Gregson, A to Z Sports Alabama

Alabama can prove it belongs with a healthy team and a win in a road rematch against Oklahoma

Alabama lost the SEC Championship, but it did have its fair share of injuries heading into the matchup. Head coach Kalen Deboer made the fair argument that Alabama didn’t have Jam Miller in two of its three losses. Now, a healthy Alabama gets to avenge one of those losses against Oklahoma in the first round.

Alabama lost the regular-season matchup to Oklahoma at home by only two points, and killed itself with turnovers. Quarterback Ty Simpson had 326 passing yards against the Sooners in the first matchup, and he needs to get out of his current slump for Alabama to get a win. Getting Miller back after having negative three rushing yards as a team against Georgia will be a huge boost to the offense as well.

Alabama believed it deserved a spot, and now it gets the chance to prove it with a win on the road to potentially face the No. 1 seed in Indiana to keep the season going.
