The time has finally come. Ty Simpson, as reported by A to Z Sports, has been weighing all options about his future. A return to Alabama, a move to stay in college via the transfer portal, and of course, a decision to enter the NFL Draft.

Well, after taking five days to make his decision, Simpson has made up his mind, and he won’t be returning to Alabama.

Ty Simpson declares for 2026 NFL Draft

If you had asked me back in early November, what do you think would happen with Ty Simpson? The prevailing notion in media and NFL circles would have been that he declared for the NFL Draft, seeing as he was being mocked as high as first overall then.

However, then came the last six weeks of the season, where injury and regression started to plague Simpson and the Crimson Tide, and his stock surely fell among NFL evaluators. However, you always have to consider the neighborhood when buying a house. That’s no different in the NFL Draft landscape.

Simpson might not be in the first overall convo he once was, but in a bad quarterback class with questions about whether Dante Moore returns to Oregon, there is a world where he is the second quarterback off the board. For more on the decision, here is A to Z Sports Alabama contributor Josh Taylor.

“Simpson declaring for the NFL Draft was his best option for many reasons. The biggest reason is that the supply will not meet the demands of the many quarterback-needy teams this offseason. This is considered a weak draft class with Fernando Mendoza and Dante Moore as the only first-round quarterbacks, if Moore declares. There are about five or six teams that will be looking for their next franchise QB.

“It’s been reported that he was weighing his NFL options, which means he was getting feedback from teams and scouts. So, what teams are saying about him was apparently enough for him to declare. The New York Jets hold three picks in the top-35 of the draft, and would be a clear favorite to land him in the first or very early second round. Teams saw the elite traits in the first half of the season before he was injured in the South Carolina game.”

Simpson leaves Alabama after winning a CFP game and getting his team to the Rose Bowl. Not bad for his first season as a starter.
