The coaches and players of the Alabama Crimson Tide had a trip to Atlanta for the SEC championship and a first-round bye in the bag at this time last week. All Alabama had to do was win out in three games that favored the Crimson Tide and the team would be sitting pretty heading into the holidays.

But then came the loss to the Oklahoma Sooners. A loss that saw Alabama’s season-long woes in the run game be exposed, and the continuation of a disturbing trend from Ty Simpson. And with that, everyone knew that a drop in the CFP rankings was imminent.

The questions were how far, and what Alabama needs to do to get back within striking range of a home playoff game, if not a first-round bye? Now we have an answer to those questions.

Alabama ranked 10th in Week 13 CFP Rankings

The committee is clearly telling Alabama that they are still a top-10 team with everything in front of them. In fact, with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish just ahead at nine and then the Oregon Ducks at seven with a date against the USC Trojans, there is room for Alabama to move up.

“Just like I said the other night, disappointed in the outcome from the game. I guess the approach I can already see is dialed in. Like I told you, I know the character of this football team. This is not a time to sit still, this is a time to keep moving forward,” said head coach Kalen DeBoer on Monday via the Alabama Crimson Tide YouTube channel.

We see areas that we can continue to improve on, but that’s what we have done all season long. We continue to push, continue to go back to work. And these guys, again, they’ve shown how resilient they are, and you can see the want to in the fight. Getting down early in the game the other night, I think, and how we continue to compete is exactly what you see in the big picture of this season, and what these guys are all made up of.”

And now is when we see exactly what Alabama is made of. This week should be as easy a test the Crimson Tide has had this season, but the Iron Bowl has turned into a must-win if Alabama is to make good on its SEC championship aspirations. And that was further proven on Tuesday night.
