The Alabama Crimson Tide controls its own destiny with a crucial Iron Bowl matchup this weekend on the road at Auburn.

The College Football Playoff selection committee has been critical of Alabama’s losses, so this needs to be a statement game for their resume. Auburn is playing with nothing to lose, an interim head coach, and the chance to play spoiler to its biggest rivals. That’s a bad recipe, especially playing at Jordan-Hare Stadium at night, where anything is possible.

Alabama already has some distractions with possible coaches leaving for head coaching opportunities, and now star wide receiver Germie Bernard gave Auburn some extra motivation with some confident comments.

Germie Bernard thinks Alabama can blow out Auburn

Playing at Auburn with your entire season on the line is already a challenge, no matter how bad the Tigers are this year. They can play recklessly and aggressively with nothing to lose and all to gain in a huge upset.

Alabama is clearly the better team, though, and Bernard thinks they can blow out Auburn in its own stadium.

“First of all, it’s my first time experiencing playing there,” Bernard said. And it’s some of the other guys the first time as well. And so, like, just hearing all the stories and seeing all the highlights of the games that they played there, it’s obviously a great atmosphere. A place that a lot of people want to play, but who says we can’t change that? You know? I mean, who says we can’t go out there and, you know, blow them out like how we did last year? I’m not saying, like they’re a bad team, they’re a great team.

“But like coach always says, we don’t have to make the games close. And so, that’s just kind of our approach to the game. Like, we don’t have to make this game close if we don’t need it to be, you know? Obviously, they’re gonna play as hard. Like, I said, they have a great squad, and they’re gonna be ready to play.”

Germie Bernard isn’t wrong, though, as Alabama is much better

As much as fans might be mad at him for saying this out loud for Auburn to use as motivation, he isn’t wrong at all. Alabama is talented enough to blow this Auburn team out, but will it? That’s the main question everyone, including the College Football Playoff selection committee, wants to see.

Alabama needs another statement game to end the season before it potentially heads to the SEC Championship and hopefully the College Football Playoff. Auburn allows 240 passing yards per game this season, so Bernard has the opportunity to be a big piece of the win after missing the last game.

Ty Simpson is looking to bounce back after a weird game against Eastern Illinois, and hopefully, Ryan Williams can make the catches that come his way.
