The Alabama Crimson Tide didn’t just lose the Rose Bowl. The team was throttled, and it continued a disturbing trend for the Crimson Tide under Kalen DeBoer. Four of the team’s last six losses have been an average margin of defeat of nearly 23 points per game.

That has left many wondering if Alabama did, in fact, make the right hire with DeBoer. Well, if you listen to team captain Deontae Lawson in his final postgame presser, he will tell you that Alabama is in good hands.

Deontae Lawson says future is bright under Kalen DeBoer

“Last year, when coach DeBoer came in, nobody really knew how to feel,” Lawson said via the Tuscaloosa News. “You’re coming behind the greatest college coach of all time. No one really, especially the guys that had been there, we didn’t really know what to expect. To just watch him transform and basically elevate from last year to this year, (he) really put his print on the program and how the guys buy in.”

“He’s a true player coach. Man, coach DeBoer is a guy. His future here will be remembered, that’s all I can say. That’s all I can say… Man, he cares. He cares for us. He cares for us. He cares for his players. He cared to keep this program up like it’s been. Man, he’s always wanted to get better. So I know… like I said, his future will definitely be remembered here.”

On the surface, 2025 was a success for the Alabama Crimson Tide. After missing the CFP entirely in 2024, Alabama made it to the SEC Championship and won a playoff game. The problem is, whether it was the game in Atlanta against the Georgia Bulldogs, or the Rose Bowl on Thursday, Alabama has looked lifeless in the biggest games of the year.

Yes, Alabama had a come-from-behind win against the Oklahoma Sooners and made a run that revitalized the team’s season. Being down 17 was a problem in itself, however. On the recruiting front, the future is still bright for Alabama, and the Crimson Tide should be well on its way to making another run next season and Deontae Lawson wants everyone to know that.
